Concert Choir Performs at Carnegie Hall
With Ola Gjeilo and Andre Thomas
The Concert Choir was privileged to be a part of the World Premier of the new work "Evening Star"
with Ola Gjeilo at Carnegie Hall for the Choirs of America Nationals on March 27, 2015.
MCHS received the distinction of being selected for the final solo performance to close the concert,
where they sang a surprise performance of “Go Where I Send Thee”
to honor
conductor and composer Dr. Andre Thomas.
Dr. Thomas turned and addressed the audience:
“Thousands of people have sung my works, but no one has given my music to me as a gift,
Mason City you have done it!
I was so pleased and overwhelmed by your tribute. Thank you!”
Tesfa Wondemagegnehu, a clinician for the festival, featured MCHS in a story
broadcast on American Public Radio discussing this tribute to Dr. Thomas.
